Ledger Client/Server Setup

PLEASE NOTE: Ledger was superseded by LedgerLite in January 2015. Unfortunately we're no longer in a position to support Ledger. However we're still able to convert your existing data from Ledger to LedgerLite if you decide to upgrade and continue with our support.

Creating The Shortcuts

To use Ledger in a client/server configuration over a TCP/IP network first install it individually onto each of the client workstations and also the server workstation where you plan to locate the database.

On each client workstation create a shortcut to the Ledger program C:\Program Files\Responsive Software\Ledger\Ledger.exe and rename it Ledger Client. Right-click on this shortcut and select Properties. Then click on the Shortcut tab.

In the Target field after the "C:\Program Files\Responsive Software\Ledger\Ledger.exe" filename (and outside the quotation marks) add the command line parameter /c. Then click on the OK button.

On the server workstation create a shortcut to the Ledger program C:\Program Files\Responsive Software\Ledger\Ledger.exe and rename it Ledger Server. Right-click on this shortcut and select Properties. Then click on the Shortcut tab.

In the Target field after the "C:\Program Files\Responsive Software\Ledger\Ledger.exe" filename (and outside the quotation marks) add the command line parameter /s. Then click on the OK button.

Double-click on the icon to start the Ledger Server program.

Setting Up The Users

Double-click on the server icon on your system tray.

This will display the Ledger Server main screen.

Go to the File menu and select Users.

To add a new user press the <Insert> key on your keyboard. To delete hold down the <Ctrl> key and press <Delete>.

Enter the user's name in the Name field.

Enter a password in the Password field. (Password's are optional so this field can be left blank.)

To allow the user to maintain the chart of accounts enter a Y in the Administrator field.

To edit the details of a user click on the field you wish to edit and then click it a second time (as distinct from a double-click.)
